When it comes time to start thinking about your ultimate home design, don’t forget the all-important man cave.
It doesn’t have to be big, or overly expensive, but offering the man of the house a dedicated space for his toys, where he can enjoy family time with just a little less farmhouse and a little more sport, is one of the best ways you can honour dad this year! (think zero throw pillows or essential oils 😉)

Some dads live for the moment that last patch of snow melts in the backyard, and it’s cargo shorts, high tops, and project planning galore! For this dad, consider a custom-designed garden/tool shed. Make it an extension of your house and it can be heated with power and a corner for him to sit and relax in between his hard and creative work.

At Victory Homes, we LOVE dads who grill up a storm (especially those ones who invite us for dinner)! We support smoky BBQs and outdoor flames, dirty napkins, sticky fingers, music on speakers and friends around a fire.
For that dad, we humbly recommend including in your new home design an outside space fit for royalty – including exterior gas line hookups for all your grilling toys, built-in outdoor kitchens (think bar tops and under-counter refrigerators), and (in an effort to help mom out) and outdoor sink for the inevitable after-fun cleanup with storage for all his grilling tools and smoke tubes!

And here we have it – the ultimate dad (and sometimes mom) space – the garage (cue ethereal voices with glowing lights!). Most people don’t realize just how much space a well-organized garage offers a family, and how easy it is to achieve this perfect, yet often-overlooked, extension to your home.
When thinking about your new custom Victory home, consider all of those items which could stay out of your basement, and into your garage, and what needs you have. What has always frustrated you about garages in the past?
Have you had enough room to open your car door to unload groceries? What about bike storage, or an extra set of winter tires?
And when considering general upgrades to your home, even if you’re not going to develop a customized garage just yet, consider the big items that are easier to do while your home is under construction:
- include a drain in the floor (with help with snow runoff as it melts in the winter);
- add a man door into the side yard for easy access (think side of the house garbage storage);
- and rough-in for a future garage heater.
